Installing Solar Panels
At Alternative Power, we are always looking for new ways to power your home or business, which is why we’ve expanded our services to include solar panel installation.
Solar panels are a great way for you to start saving energy and money while reducing your overall utility bill. We are working to help companies and residents of NC & VA create a cleaner, more efficient way to capture and use solar energy.
Why Install Solar Panels?
Save Money & Energy
By installing solar panels, you will be able to significantly reduce your dependency on the grid, thus reducing your monthly energy bill. This protects you from rising utility energy prices and puts more money back in your pocket every month.
Increase Your Home’s Value
Adding a solar energy system to your home will instantly increase your home’s value and allow you to see the long-term benefits.
Create Clean Energy
Solar panel installation has greater benefits than just saving you money. By creating clean, renewable energy, you are reducing your carbon footprint on the world. Be a part of the solution by fighting climate change and installing solar panels.
Great Incentives
Take advantage of federal tax credits and use that money to reinvest into your home. Currently, you can receive a 22% Federal Solar Tax credit in 2021.
How Does Solar Power Work?
The process of capturing and storing solar power is pretty simple. Solar panels on your roof (or in your yard) will capture sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. From there, an inverter will convert this DC energy into alternating current (AC), which will then power your home. AC is used because it can easily be transformed from one voltage to another, can be distributed over large distances with relatively low losses, and is safer than DC if touched.
As the solar energy powers your home, any excess is stored in your power cell or sent back to the grid to be recorded as a credit to your monthly utility bill. This will depend on your utility company and rate structure. Your power cell, however, will be used to:
- Deliver energy when the sun is not shining
- Discharge more energy during expensive rate periods, while recharging during lower rate periods
- Become back-up power in the event of a power outage.
Solar Panel Installation Process
We first start by scheduling a free evaluation of your home. When we arrive, we will evaluate your roof design and collect other information needed like your electricity bill history. At this point, we will analyze these data points to build a custom proposal for your home. This proposal will give you a detailed breakdown of the cost of your installation and your potential energy savings.
Once you approve our proposal, we can get started on your project. We start by pulling permits from your local municipality and utility company. Next, we order the products outlined in our proposal and once the permits are secured, we can start installing your solar system.
